Until retirement Linda had worked for 50 years with experience in all sectors.
In the public sector, she was a computer programmer in the civil service and a communications specialist in the Police Force. In the private sector she ran two successful businesses as a café proprietor and her own PR and Communications company. On top of all that she helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for various charities but mostly Marie Curie, Cancer Research and The Air Ambulance Service.
Post retirement in her 60s Linda ran three London Marathons, climbed Kilimanjaro to the top and Everest to base camp as well as the Inca Trail and two Breast Cancer Moonwalks. When cancer struck in 2021 just before her 71st birthday, she was in training to be part of the oldest team to swim the English Channel.
A diagnosis in April 2021
In April 2021 her life changed with an incurable ovarian cancer diagnosis and the beginning of intensive chemotherapy treatment. Her initial prognosis was 12–18 months and the thought that her normal life was over, but Linda being the person she is did not lay down and let cancer take its course. Whilst she knew the adventures were over, she remained determined to live life to the full. She still does.
How the charity began
It was one day in the chemotherapy unit that Linda came across another young woman some 50 years her junior who had a similar prognosis and who talked about all the things she would have liked to have done, just like Linda had. That sparked this charity, and her determination to help others lead their best lives.
